Getting my feet wet

Hello !

Well this is the first of many posts to come as I embark on my journey to become a Peace Corps Volunteer in Fiji.As of right now I am set to leave on May 18, 2010 for a two day training in the States which is called "Staging" and usually happens right by the airport we use to fly to Fiji. After the training I fly out with the other Fiji Volunteers and have a 2-3 month training to learn as much is possible to equip me in becoming a useful member of the Corps.

I have a few documents right now that I need to get done but procrastination is a killer. I have a resume, aspiration letter and dental documents to get done.If anyone would like to write my aspiration statement based on my ideas I would be eternally grateful.

Thinking about all the time I have before I go off into the unknown I have a few places I'd like to go in order to see my family and friends. hopefully I'll be able to see my family in New York, Jamaica and my friends in Knoxvegas. Jamaica would be a biggie since I haven't been down there in years. If you were wondering I am taking donations for plane tickets.

Also, I really want to get in some volunteer work in but it's the hardest thing to find stuff to do that seem interesting and are in my area.If you know of any organizations in the Chicago/Elgin area that have great volunteer programs-other than tutoring, i'm your girl.

That's all for now-until the next post

  1. Hey! Looks like we have a lot in common...I'm currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer here in Fiji...finishing June 2010. I am also coincidentally from Elgin & do social work...

Let me know if you have any questions before coming, and as for volunteering in Elgin area , have you asked the Community Crisis Center? They're in a bit of a financial crisis right now & I'm sure they need volunteers--including sexual assault advocates if that's something you're interested in.

Congrats on your invite to FijI!
